What is the New Wine Discipleship Year?
The NWDY is a gap-year programme for anyone ages 18-24 to spend a year growing as a follower and disciple of Jesus, to exercise and grow in your giftings, to learn how to serve Jesus and His Kingdom with all of your life and to get some practical experience serving in a local church.
How does it work?
There are several elements to the NWDY:
Placement in a local church
Two Weekend Away trips
New Wine Leadership Conference
Team place at New Wine United (Summer Conference)
Optional mission trip
The Discipleship Year runs from September to June. Each week you will receive 8 hours of teaching at the regional hub (St. Phillips Chapel Street) at term time. At the hub there will an exciting mixture of teaching taught around topics of theology, mission and what it looks like to put it these practice. There will be a variety of speakers, both local and guest speakers, from a diverse mix of backgrounds and contexts.
You’ll also have the opportunity to serve a minimum of 12 hours a week at our local church here at St. Werburgh’s throughout the rest of the week, as well as at our services on Sundays. We are able to offer up to full-time placement (including the teaching days). You may also wish to get a part-time job to put-into-practice the teaching and experience you gain from the rest of the week as you live out your faith in the world.
We have a variety of opportunities ranging from youth work, children's work, media & sound, football, administration & operations, creative, worship, Locals (small groups) and much more.
There are two Discipleship Year Weekends Away where you will gather with other Discipleship Year students from the all the other hubs to join together to worship, learn, build relationships and have fun together! You will also be guaranteed a ticket to the New Wine Leadership Conference as well as the opportunity to serve in New Wine United summer conferences.
There will also be an optional self-funded overseas mission trip either in the UK or abroad.
Each Student pays £1,000 for the Discipleship Year course, payable at the beginning of your first term. If you have any questions or concerns about the finance for the New Wine Discipleship Year then please get in touch.
We may be able offer rooms in shared houses or with families within our church, either for free or a contribution towards rent and bills etc. Discipleship Year Students may also find their own accommodation if preferred.
