St Werburgh’s has been a part of the Chorlton community for over 120 years. In the last few years, we have seen a transformation happen as the church has taken on a fresh vision and direction to reach and connect with Chorlton and South Manchester in new ways. Building on all that God has done before, we have seen wonderful growth of a new and vibrant church community gathering around this vision:

‘To play our part in seeing people, communities and churches come alive in Jesus’ name in Chorlton, Manchester and beyond.’

We are seeking to make it as easy as possible for people to encounter and connect with the living Jesus. We believe God loves us and wants each of us to enjoy life with him. Because of this, we’re passionate about seeing God renew people, communities and churches with his life and fullness.

Working in partnership with the Diocese of Manchester, we are also playing our part to plant and revitalise other churches around the area and see many more people welcomed home.

However big the vision, at the centre we are a family that everyone is invited to join. Whether you’re looking for a church to belong to, or exploring faith, we can’t wait to meet you and go on this journey with you!

Our Values

Family

We think church should feel like family where we are accepted for who we are, become who we were made to be and join with what God is doing! There are no passengers, all get to play!

Encounter

We think the life Jesus offers is worth seeking after as we know we all have a spiritual hunger. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to encounter and connect with the life giver – Jesus. We are praying for and expectant of encounters with the risen Jesus by the Holy Spirit both when we gather and in our everyday lives.

Risk

We want to be people that take big steps of faith and not play it safe, as we have a big God who is with us and guides us even when we get it wrong! We would rather be people that had a go, than did nothing.

Unity

We don’t believe in going it alone. We are part of a much bigger, wider church where God is bringing people to life across the city, nation and the world. We therefore want to seek partnership with others where possible and be generous with what we learn as well as blessing what others are seeing breakthrough in.

Fun

We want to take who Jesus is, what he’s asked us to do seriously, but we don’t want to take ourselves too seriously. We want to celebrate well, laugh often and enjoy the journey!

James & Emily Neal

James and Emily moved to Chorlton in the summer of 2020. Before that, they lived in Cambridge and Greater Manchester where James was on the leadership team of various churches. They have two children, Lily and Toby, who they hope to raise as seasoned Northerners!

Both Northerners themselves, they love being in Manchester and are excited for what God is doing in this city and what that looks like in wonderful Chorlton.
