We are a church doing something new…

In 2020, the Diocese of Manchester invited James and Emily Neal to lead a new initiative in Chorlton, Manchester. With support from New Wine, the Diocese designated St Werburgh’s as a resource church; a church designed to plant and revitalise churches. Launching something new in the middle of a pandemic meant that services and chats over a cuppa were replaced by Zoom calls and doorstep hellos. Nevertheless, they were soon joined by others, who gathered around this vision:

‘To play our part in seeing people, communities and churches come alive in Jesus’ name in Chorlton, Manchester and beyond.’

St Werburgh’s is a church seeking to make it as easy as possible for people to encounter and connect with the living Jesus. We believe God loves us and wants each of us to enjoy life with him. Because of this, we’re passionate about seeing God renew people, communities and churches with his life and fullness; both in the wonderful suburb of Chorlton and beyond.

However big the vision, at the centre we are a family that everyone is invited to join. Whether you’re looking for a church to belong to, or exploring faith, we can’t wait to meet you and go on this journey with you.

James & Emily Neal

James and Emily moved to Chorlton in the summer of 2020. Before that, they lived in Cambridge and Greater Manchester where James was on the leadership team of various churches. They have two children, Lily and Toby, who they hope to raise as seasoned Northerners!

Both Northerners themselves, they love being in Manchester and are excited for what God is doing in this city and what that looks like in wonderful Chorlton.
